Whom is Rest?

by Lisa Hauger, in response to the prompt, "Finding rest in this season"

What rest is there for the human condition?

We’re all bumping up against ever emerging mortality-bruising crisis upon crisis upon crisis…

Some of us hid heads in the sand, suffocating senses,

closed to compassion for the suffering outside of ourselves.

Some of us spill bleeding hearts, overflowing all capacities with fatigue,

raw constant caring feels like drowning in oceans of need.

Where hides peaceful calm?

Where find soothing clarity?

Only One makes claim to offer this illusive stillness of soul.

His sacrifice broke chains of striving and selfishness.

The risen Christ lavishes freedom for abundant rest.

Just call His name – Jesus.
